ORC Week 5 | A hiccup or seven
It’s ORC week five and we are not feeling very alive. So much work happened but it doesn’t look like it because we hit all the snags. We needed to divide and conquer this week so Paul was stuck with a lot of the bathroom work by himself. He’s a saint and an angel and I’m keeping him forever. Our friends had a fundraiser for their non-profit and needed a babysitter which meant I hung out with our two favorite toddlers while he was making four trips to the hardware store.
Yes. Four >.< (can I still use that or did we leave the typeface emoticons in 2016? I’m keeping it.) The plan was for him to swap the faucet, take down the old light fixture, and pop on the new toilet lever. Not a terrible list so I didn’t feel too bad. Well, we jinxed ourselves because he went to shut off the water (with the valves under the sink) and one of them was rusted so badly it wouldn’t close. He decided to replace them because “how hard could that be?” and it would make things easier down the line. Turns out, it’s pretty difficult when you buy the wrong replacement valve.
Could that trip have been prevented? Sure, probably. But then he went to remove the hot water valve and it was so badly rusted that it wouldn’t come off. Back to the store for some solvent situation that cut through the rust to get it off. Cool, got the valves on and he was moving on to the actual list of projects. He had to go back two more times and I’m honestly not sure for what exactly but he may have cursed out our old house a time or two (we love her and would continue to fix her up for many more years if we owned her.)
After the valves were replaced, he got the old faucet off, cleaned up the sink, and….found a dent in the new faucet. A. DENT. A tiny dent, but it was right on the front and would have driven me crazy. Fortunately, I was able to get a new one on the way from the company super quickly and it will be here in a matter of days. I took a poll on Instagram and everyone was split 50/50 as to living with it or getting a replacement. Waiting on the new one will be worth it.
The great news? It is finally wallpaper week and I simply CAN NOT WAIT. Once the paper goes in, we’ll pop up the new light fixture, add some art, styling, and we’re done! The finish line is pretty blurry but I think it’s coming into view.
Until next time,
Aynsley Anne
