ORC Week 4 | Paint it Green
WOOOOAAAAHHHH WE’RE HALFWAY THEEEEEREEEE! How many ORC week four posts started that way this week? I’m guessing a lot, but I don’t care because we're halfway there and livin’ on a prayer. I’ll stop now.
ANYWAY, We are finally at the part where we get to start pulling the room together and I’m so excited about it. Just about all of the pretty things have been ordered and the wallpaper installation is tentatively scheduled. I may simply pass away from the anticipation of getting it up on the walls. We have, of course, put our touch on our home over the years but it’s a rental so we can’t do too much. Naturally, when our landlord said we could spruce up the half bath, I really ran with it.
So last week I gave the trim a fresh coat of White Dove from Benjamin Moore. When I was first planning out this project I really wanted to bring in one of the pinks or blues for the trim, but because we have a pocket door in that bathroom it didn’t make sense. Typically, if you’re painting the trim/door in one room you will have a good stopping point so it doesn’t need to wrap all the way around (meeting up with the baseboard in the connecting room and looking weird.) I considered bringing out one of the blushes or cooler greens onto the ceiling but dismissed it initially until chatting with my boss (s/o Rebecca / Studio Plumb) about what to do. She gave her blessing to put green on the ceiling which was all the confirmation I needed. Off to the paint store I went!
Now this next part is very do as I say not as I do because I brought my wallpaper swatch and compared paint chips to snag the right tone. What I didn’t do but perhaps should have done is brought the chips home to see how they looked in the bathroom with the lighting and blah blah blah rules. If this were a client’s space I would, of course, recommend doing that but it’s my own home and I operate more off of vibes than conventions here. I finger-painted a tiny swatch onto the ceiling and went all in. Fortunately, I’m brilliant ;) and it worked out great. I went with Caldwell Green from Benjamin Moore and it’s actually the perfect shade. Cool but not icy, neutral but not flat, and it matches a tone from the wallpaper so well. I’m obsessed.
Make sure you’re following along on Instagram! I’m sharing more photos and behind-the-scenes over there. So long as the shipping gods shine on us favorably, we should be installing the faucet and door hardware this week. It’s really really happening!!! I’m already scheming and dreaming about how I can move into this 2.5’x5’ room. Some Alice & Wonderland-esque potion might be required.
Until next time,
Aynsley Anne
