ORC Week 1 | Room & Mood

It’s officially week one of the ORC!!! I’ve watched friends and influencers participate in this challenge for the last few years and I’m feeling so excited to jump in myself. I attribute this to surrounding myself with incredible creative humans who are doing the damn thing and telling me that I can do it, too. Not to mention a lot of self-reflection and determination to show up for me, my vision, and my life. We only get one! In case you aren’t familiar, the One Room Challenge is an interior design event to motivate participants to complete one space from start to finish.

Like most of us, I have a list as tall as myself of home projects and design dreams. The ORC is the deadline I need to get a project checked off the list. With that, I’ll be refreshing our powder bathroom over the next 8 weeks and I hope you’ll follow along! The weeks are definitely going to fly by and I wanted to very intentionally choose a manageable space. —What?! Recognizing my tendency to overwhelm myself?? That’s growth. Don’t worry though, I also signed up for a huge makers market/event right at the end of the challenge for my art work so I haven’t changed much.

Alright, let’s get into this space. Here is the before:

Look, I’m not saying the pug is going to be the first to go, but he is hung at the incorrect height which makes my artist soul cry. Just don’t tell my fiancé that the pug has no place in the final design, okay? Free to a good home. The pug, not the fiancé. We’ve been talking about painting and updating the lighting in here for quite some time so why not take it to the next level?

I love love loveeee a powder bath that packs a huge design punch so I’ll be layering as much into this small room as I can. I’ve been dreaming of wrapping this space in a stunning wallpaper and when I saw the House of Heras collection with Milton & King the whole thing came together in my head.

I want the space to be a celebration of artistry, design, and quality materials. Instagram was pretty divided over the wallpaper but I think Milton & King’s Prancing Peacock in the salmon colorway is going to stun in the tiny space. With such small walls, I had to take the scale of the paper into consideration and some of the other options were just a hair too big, in my opinion. Plus, the moody tones in this one are far too perfect. I’m focusing on the bold walls, skirting the sink in a fun pattern that complements but doesn’t overwhelm, and a few special handmade details to pull it together.

I can’t wait to share more details in the coming weeks! First up is doing a serious deep clean so that all of these new finishes can have their moment. Follow along here and on Instagram!

Until next time,

Aynsley Anne
